Emma Dalley, LLB, GDLP, BBus(Mgt)
Principal Lawyer
Emma is the Principal Lawyer and Director of Industry Legal Group. Emma is admitted as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Queensland and has a dual degree in both business management and law. Emma enjoys using her skills to assist a wide variety of clients including individuals, small businesses, large national corporations, not for profits and industry associations to find practical and commercially sound solutions to their problems.
Prior to her current role, Emma gained experience working for one of Brisbane’s largest law firms in a range of areas including corporate advisory, commercial, employment, litigation and intellectual property law during which time she also sat on the board of the Indigenous Lawyers Association (Qld).
Emma is an experienced employment lawyer with a special knowledge and understanding of industry sectors of her industry association clients having provided workplace relations advice and support to some of those clients for more than 6 years. Emma and her team are able to assist clients effectively navigate their workplace rights and obligations.
Sonja van der Steen, BA, JD, GDLP
Commercial Lawyer
Sonja is a commercial lawyer with experience in commercial law, corporate advisory, estate planning, facilitating compliance, franchising and leasing gained in boutique law firms, a national firm, working as an in-house lawyer and in the not-for-profit sector. This experience has provided Sonja with insight in approaching legal queries and transactions with a view to the commercial objectives and practical solutions.
After completing a practical legal training and a Juris Doctor at the Australian National University, Sonja was admitted to the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory. Before obtaining her law degree, Sonja completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of New England in literature, conflict resolution and development studies.
Shaun Barr
Lawyer
Shaun Barr is a lawyer with experience across employment law, workplace relations, governance, defamation and litigation. He works with a broad range of clients, including schools, councils, aged care and health providers, corporates and not-for-profit organisations throughout Australia.
Shaun provides clear legal advice and strategic support in complex matters involving compliance, dispute resolution and litigation. He has acted in general protections matters before the Fair Work Commission, successfully challenged regulatory action by the Non-State School Accreditation Board and negotiated favourable settlements in high-risk disputes.
Known for his practical and outcomes-focused approach, Shaun helps clients manage legal, reputational and operational risk in challenging circumstances. He is equally confident working behind the scenes or appearing in court when the situation calls for it.
After completing a Bachelor of Laws at Central Queensland University, Shaun went on to complete his Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law. He was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2020. He also holds a Diploma of Education from James Cook University.
Mitchell Irvine
Financial Controller
Mitch is Industry Legal Group’s Financial Controller and has over 10 years’ experience in the finance industry. Previously he worked as a supervisor with a mid tier professional services firm and has also held the position of Financial Controller with a small consulting business.
